Probing the topological charge of a vortex beam with dynamic angular double slits.
When a vortex beam with a spiral phase structure passes through dynamic angular double slits (ADS), the interference pattern changes alternatively between destructive and constructive at the angular bisector of the ADS. This change is due to their phase difference. Based on this property, we experimentally demonstrate a simple method to precisely and efficiently determine the topological charge...
متن کاملVortex beam propagation through atmospheric turbulence and topological charge conservation.
The propagation of vortex beams through weak-to-strong atmospheric turbulence is simulated and analyzed. It is demonstrated that the topological charge of such a beam is a robust quantity that could be used as an information carrier in optical communications. The advantages and limitations of such an approach are discussed.
متن کاملThe transition from a coherent optical vortex to a Rankine vortex: beam contrast dependence on topological charge
Spatially coherent helically phased light beams carry orbital angular momentum (OAM) and contain phase singularities at their centre. Destructive interference at the position of the phase singularity means the intensity at this point is necessarily zero, which results in a high contrast between the centre and the surrounding annular intensity distribution. Beams of reduced spatial coherence yet...
متن کاملOrbital Angular Momentum Density of a Hollow Vortex Gaussian Beam
Here the hollow vortex Gaussian beam is described by the exact solution of the Maxwell equations. By means of the method of the vectorial angular spectrum, analytical expressions of the electromagnetic fields of a hollow vortex Gaussian beam propagating in free space are derived. By using the electromagnetic fields of a hollow vortex Gaussian beam beyond the paraxial approximation, one can calc...
متن کاملProbing angular correlations in sequential double ionization.
We study electron correlation in sequential double ionization of noble gas atoms and HCl in intense, femtosecond laser pulses. We measure the photoelectron angular distributions of Ne+ relative to the first electron in a pump-probe experiment with 8 fs, 800 nm, circularly polarized laser pulses at a peak intensity of a few 10(15) W/cm2. Using a linear-linear pump-probe setup, we further study ...
